AN ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR, PROF. SAMUEL OYE BANDELE AT THE 2015 CONTACT SESSION MATRICULATION CEREMONY OF THE SANDWICH POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS ON FRIDAY, 4TH DECEMBER, 2015.

PROTOCOL

Let me give Glory to God Almighty for making it possible for me to address you today as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of this great institution. This happens to be the first Matriculation Ceremony I will be presiding over since my assumption of duty.

Ekiti State University under my administration will focus on providing academically sound, creative and entrepreneurial students. Every student is expected to be well equipped with relevant skills needed for outstanding performance in the larger society. The competence of any institution can be measured in many ways. Paramount among which is the proficiency of her graduate and postgraduate alumni.

Consequently, I want to admonish everyone to do his best so as to learn innovative ways of doing things and unlearn things that are no longer relevant.

Permit me to congratulate the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies on the very many outstanding feats that he has recorded since assumption of duty in the college. These have enhanced speedy completion of Studies of many of our Postgraduate students.

Let me enjoin you all to put in your best so as to emerge excellent at the end of your programme. My administration will handsomely promote and reward excellence in all ramifications. You have got to exercise discipline so as to make maximum achievement.

I congratulate you the Matriculants for your determination to invest in your individual self-development. Such decision can only come out of the strong belief that if you don’t have wisdom, ignorance will be the inheritance bequeathed to succeeding generations. I also wish to enjoin you to remain focused, don’t give room for distraction, eschew violence and shun unholy associations and I am also assuring you that the management will do everything possible to ensure that you finish your programme at the stipulated period so as to make your studentship a remarkable one.

The matriculation oath taken by you today confers on you all the rights, obligations and privileges of the studentship of this University. It is a rare opportunity to be offered admission into the University taking into account the number of other applicants whose applications were turned down.

I want to enjoin you to put in your best, do not just know or write history of Ekiti State University, be part of those making things happen in this citadel of learning. Make the most of the opportunity granted you to study here.

Once again accept my hearty congratulations.

Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele
