Wole OlanipekunChief Wole Olanipekun SAN, Elder Statesman, National Interventionist and Advocate-extraordinaire, hails from Ikere in Ekiti State. He is a product of Amoye Grammar School, Ikere, Ilesa Grammar School, Ilesa, University of Lagos and the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. Very early in life, the potentials in him were noticed and appreciated by his peers and teachers alike. Thus, in 1969, Chief Olanipekun was made the Senior Prefect at Amoye Grammar School, Ikere, while in 1971, he was also appointed a School Prefect and elected as the Chairman of the Students’ Representative Council at Ilesa Grammar School, llesa. In 1971, the learned lawyer emerged as one of the national winners of the J .E Kennedy Essay Competition organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for HigherSchool Certificate final year students in Nigeria.

He was elected the Secretary-General of the University of Lagos Students’ Union in 1973and between 1973 -1975,he was an Executive member of the defunct National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS).


Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN was called to the Nigerian Bar in July, 1976, became a Notary Public in 1987, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in July, 1991. He served as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the old On do State ( 1992 & 1993). Chief Olanipekun was elected the 20th President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in August, 2002. His administration created the now popular and nationally acclaimed Sections on Business Law and Legal Practice. Chief Olanipekun pioneered the formation of the West African Bar Association in 2004.



At different times, Chief Wale Olanipekun SAN has served as Member of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC), Council of Legal Education, Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, General Council of the Bar, Ondo State Judicial Service Commission, and Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti. He was at a point in time, the Acting Chairman of the Council of Legal Education. He became a life member of the Body of Benchers in 2004. The legal luminary is a life member of the National Executive Committee of the NBA. While he is still an active member of the International Bar Association (IBA), Commonwealth Lawyers’ Association (CLA), Pan African Lawyers’ Union (PALU), and West African Bar Association (WABA), Chief Olanipekun was, between 2002- 2005, a member of Council of each of the International Law bodies. He is the ViceChairman of the Advisory Board of the Ibadan Business School.


Chief Wale Olanipekun SAN was Pro-Chancellor of University of lbadan (2009 – 2013). Currently, he is Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo. It is on record that while serving as Pro-Chancellor of University of Ibadan, he did not receive any allowance, not even transport reimbursement but he gave all allowances due to him back to the University. The legal luminary has written and presented over 250 papers on diverse topics in Law, Politics, Economics, Education and Religion among others.



He is a quiet, accommodating and winsome philanthropist who initiated an endowment fund for Junior Lawyers. In recognition of his immense contribution to humanity, Chief Wole Olanipekun was given several chieftaincy titles in several communities including The Mayegun of Ikere Ekiti Ekiti State by the traditional ruler of the town in 1991.

Chief Olanipekun is married with 4 children.
