The Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose has appointed a frontline lawyer, Mr. Dele Adesina, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti. His appointment was sequel to the resignation of the former Pro-Chancellor, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye.
Barrister Adesina hails from Ilawe-Ekiti, in Ekiti South West Local Government area of Ekiti State. He attended University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife between 1978 and 1981 where he obtained Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB (Hons.)). He attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to Bar and enrolled as a solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in July 1982.
Barrister Adesina was elevated into the Inner Bar as Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in October, 2007. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCI Arb), Barrister Adesina has once been a teacher at Notre Dame Grammar School, Usi-Ekiti (1978) and an Insurance Officer at Royal Exchange Assurance Nigeria Plc, Lagos (1982 – 1983). He was a State Counsel in Ondo State Ministry of Justice (1983) and an Associate Solicitor at Messrs Doja Adewopo & Co (1987 – 1992). Barrister Adesina is a Principal Partner, Messrs Dele Adesina Citygate Chambers, Lagos till date.
The new EKSU Governing Council Chairman has served the Nigerian Bar Association in various capacities such as Life Member of the Body of Benchers, the highest regulatory body of the legal profession and member Distinguished Body of Benchers (March, 2000). He was a member of the Governing Council, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria and has been at different occasions Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, Publicity Secretary and the General Secretary.
A life member of National Executive Committee, Nigerian Bar Association since 2002. Barrister Adesina is a member of the Judicial Service Commission of Ekiti State. The EKSU Pro-Chancellor has been a member of the international Bar Association since 1989 as well as being a member of Council of the same association since 2002.
Barrister Adesina who has distinguished himself on several fronts is a Christian and holds several positions in religious organisations including being a member of the Governing Council, Board of Regents at Covenant University, Canaanland Otta, Christian Lawyers Association of Nigeria (CLASFON) and the Executive Council of Winners Business Fellowship, Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, Otta, Ogun State among others.
He is the Vice-Chairman and Legal Adviser, Winners Business Fellowship, Faith Tabernacle, Otta, Ogun State.
The EKSU Pro-Chancellor has authored several books including “Burning Issues in the 1999 Constitution” Proceedings under Special Tribunals: A Critique of Decrees Jurisdiction and Practice and Procedure of Specialized Tribunal” and “The Force of Justice”.
Also, he has presented over forty-two researched and specialized papers at several fora.
Mr. Dele Adesina,SAN is married and the marriage is blessed with children.
