Mission Statement of the Department:

To promote the study of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programme in Chemistry leading to award of degrees in various specialization and to sustain academic and scientific researches in the various field of specialization in Chemistry

General Information on the Framework and Services of the Department:
Admission Requirements for B.Sc Chemistry:
Students intending to gain admission into the department must satisfy the general University and Faculty entry requirements and should normally satisfy at least one of the following conditions:

  1. Obtain “O” level credit passes in Chemistry, Physics Mathematics, English and one other science subject or approved equivalent passes at SSCE examination.
  2. Pass the Pre-degree Science Courses of the Faculty of Science of the University of Ado-Ekiti at prescribed levels and must also satisfy (i) above.
  3. Pass with satisfactory grades at “A” level examination i.e. a minimum of 90 points aggregate in at least two of the following subjects:  Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics/Biology.  Such candidates may be exempted from equivalent courses in the programme.  He/She must also satisfy (i) above.
  4. A minimum of Upper Credit in OND in Science Technology (Chemistry Option) from a recognized Polytechnic.

Requirements for the Award of Degree:
For the student to receive the Award of a Bachelor (Honours) degree in Chemistry, he must have passed minimum of 133 units of compulsory courses and 21 units of elective courses i.e. Total units passed (TUP) = 154 at the end of four (4) sessions.  Students cannot exceed six (6) sessions (12 semesters) and prerequisite pass is 30% and pass mark is 40%.

General Information on the Organs and Activities of the Department
Admission Requirements for B.Sc Industrial Chemistry:
For admission into the B.Sc. degree programme in Industrial Chemistry, candidates must satisfy the general University and Faculty of Science entry requirements, and should normally satisfy any of the following conditions:

1. UME Candidate:  Obtain a minimum of five “O” Level Credits in the S.S.C.E or G.C.E (W.A.E.C.) including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, physics and any other relevant subject in the Sciences or Social Sciences.

ii.    Pass the Pre-degree Science Programme of the Faculty of Science, University of Ado-Ekiti, with at least 60% average in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and not below 60% in Chemistry and 50% in either Mathematics of physics, in addition to fulfilling condition (i) above.
iii.   The following categories of candidates may be considered for Direct Entry (DE) admission, having fulfilled condition (i) above,

1. WAEC ‘A’ Level Certificate not below the grades of ‘C’ in Chemistry; and ‘D’ in either    Mathematics  or Physics.
2. Those with OND Certificate with a minimum of Upper Credit in Science laboratory Technology,  from institutions recognized by the Senate of the University.

Requirements for the Award of Degree:
To be eligible for the award of a B.Sc (Honours) Degree in Industrial Chemistry, the candidate must satisfy the following:
(i)           The general University requirements for graduation
(ii)         The University requirements for GST course.
(iii)        The Faculty of Science requirements with respect to workload course registration and Programme duration.
(iv)        Satisfactory completion of the Faculty of Science compulsory basic courses.
(v)         Satisfactory completion of the Departmental compulsory courses together with the minimum number of units of required and elective   courses, within and outside the Department.
(vi)        The minimum ‘CTUP’ required for graduation are 162 (UME) and 126 (Direct Entry).
