PROFILE OF PROFESSOR PATRICK OLUGBENGA TEDELA
He attended the renowned Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti between 1977 and 1982 and the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) between 1983 and 1987 where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Botany. In 1988, after observing the mandatory National Youth Service in Dass, Bauchi State. Olugbenga Tedela returned to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he obtained M.Sc degree in Botany specializing in Plant Systematics in 1991. He worked briefly as a class teacher in Irepodun High School, Ipao-Ekiti and Corpus Christi College, Ilawe between 1991 and 1993. He started his Ph.D degree in the then University of Ado-Ekiti in 1998 and completed it in 2004.
Prof. Olugbenga Tedela joined the services of the then Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti) in 1993 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2013. He has served in many administrative capacities in the University, few of which are Ag. HOD, Department of Plant Science (2005-2007, 2008-2010, 2011-2012) Ag. HOD, Department of Science Laboratory Technology (2013-2015) and Chairman, Business Committee of Faculty Board of Studies (2008-2016), Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies (August, 2018 to February, 2020) and presently, he is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
Prof. Tedela, a fellow of the African Scientific Institute is a member of many professional bodies and has published over forty articles in reputable local and international journals. The easy going, humble and highly resourceful Prof. has impacted tremendously on the lives of many students which had earned him a lot of awards from the students body. Worthy of note among the awards is the Impactful Personality award (2010) for exceptional contribution to student unionism and societal development.
Prof. P. O. Tedela is married to Mrs. H. B. Tedela, a Journalist and they are blessed with two children.
