The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kola Oluwawole has commended the brave steps taken by the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof Samuel Oye Bandele whom he said had justified the confidence of the people and government of Ekiti State as well as demonstrated adequate knowledge of the problems militating against the progress of the University.
The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly said this when management team of the Ekiti State University led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Samuel Oye Bandele visited him as part of ongoing familiarization visit to stakeholders and friends of the University.
Rt. Hon. Oluwawole explained that the choice of Prof Oye Bandele was divine adding that he has started on the right footing by exposing the weak areas of the University and promptly salvaging the situation.
The speaker said, he was impressed with the level of acceptability and cooperation enjoyed by the Vice- Chancellor among the University Community.
He urged the Vice-Chancellor to be fair and firm and leave no stone unturned to ensure Ekiti State University is positioned among the best Universities in Africa.
In his remarks, the Vice- Chancellor explained that he has received tremendous support from staff following his decisions to announce State of Emergency in some units, and departments which are running slow in terms of efficiency or are simply not performing.
Prof Bandele said that the University would be holding an Internally Revenue Generation this January to find ways of sourcing for funds and increasing wealth of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor also added that an Academic Summit will hold in February 2016 to strengthen weak areas on the academic curricular and quality. He said he had the intention to promote and expand access to University education through establishment of new courses and he solicited the support of the parliament to achieve.
