The Distance Learning Programme of Ekiti State University would soon lead the way among other institutions in the effective use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform in Open and Distance Learning.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Oye Bandele gave the indication while declaring open a 3-day training/workshop organized to improve course materials development and learners support organized by the university in collaboration with an organization known as Emerging Platforms who are experts in providing platforms for Open and Distance Learning programme.
Professor Bandele said that Ekiti State University has performed creditably well in the confessional lecture – students’ contact educational system stressing that it was time for Ekiti State University to deliver a credible open and Distance learning where ICT will play a major role.
The EKSU Vice Chancellor who has academic qualifications in Mathematics and Computer Science said that advanced European Countries and South Africa now place premium on online academic degrees awarded through the Distance Learning programme.
Professor Bandele said that with the right infrastructure in place students could go through credible accredited and rigorous degree programmes online.
The Emerging Platforms team led by Mr Ekpe John said their outfit is an ICT provider- organization accredited by the National Universities Commission with work of experience with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and other universities in Nigeria.
Mr John, “Ekiti State University is well equipped to run an effective platform for Open and Distance Learning programme.”
Participants in the workshop were drawn from across the Faculties of the University.
