The Governing Council of Ekiti State University at its 133rd meeting has appointed a firm of chartered accountants to carry out a forensic audit of the finances of university. The Chairman of Council, Prof Bamitale Omole in his address to members of the Governing Council said that in the context of the transformation and repositioning agenda of tertiary institutions by the current administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Governing Council of Ekiti State University has taken steps to sanitize and reorganize the financial system of the university. This is with a view to block leakages and prevent opaqueness in financial transactions and streamline financial operations according to best practices for optimal performance. Prof Omole in a Press Statement said that the visitation panel report and the government white paper identified that the major problem in the financial situation in the university is not necessarily paucity of funds, but the existence of uncontrolled and uncontrollable centres of financial seepage that have hemorrhaged the financial system of the university and rendered it comatose. This situation the Chairman said is unacceptable and that Council is determined to rectify immediately. The firm of chartered accountants engaged to carry out the forensic audit would start work immediately.
