Brief History of EKSU Library

The EKSU Library started in 1982 in a rented apartment opposite the University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti. It moved to the University main campus in 1995 under the headship of the pioneer University Librarian, Mr. J.A. Arikembi. By 1990, the reasons to have an extension to the University Library became evident and this was accomplished. The extension gave birth to a separate Law Library, a larger research library, three senior staff offices and a more functional circulation outfit was put in place. Mr. G.O. Ogunleye, the then Deputy University Librarian was appointed Acting University Librarian in 1999 and became substantive University Librarian in 2002. In 2005, the Law Library relocated to a separate Law Library Building in the Faculty of Law premises on the demand of the Council of Legal Education. In 2007, the first phase of the three phases University Library became available for occupation and was immediately put into use.

MISSION

The Mission of Ekiti State University Library is to have a library which provides information and library services of best practice globally; a library which  provides print and electronic library resources accessible through physical and remote channels away from the library; a library which  provides  a peaceful and friendly atmosphere where students can acquire academic knowledge and freely interact with library staff; a library which  has  collaborative relationship with government, non-government agencies and other institutional libraries and a library which  has a close relationship with the Deans of different faculties with the aim of providing web-enhanced learning services, getting inputs in book purchase  and other faculty needs.

VISION

Ekiti State University Library Vision is a globalised academic and information centre which provides a hybrid of diverse forms of information resources made open to members of the academic community. It would be a library where services are of high global standard and library staff members are information experts who are friendly and approachable. It would be a library where collaborations and collective learning is provided for and teamwork structure is applied; where information resources and products are marketed through on-line and off-line modes. The University Library would be the focal point for web-enhanced interactive learning for students and academic staff of the University.
