It was the sweetest news of the year and a fabulous end of the year gift for students of Ekiti State University who went wild with joy following the announcement of reduction of tuition fees by the governor of Ekiti State and visitor to the university.
The Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose has announced to the public at an official function about a month ago that he will make an official statement on the tuition fees and other charges payable by students of the institution who had pleaded during his governorship campaign for a reduction.
The Governor made true his promise at the maiden broadcast of MEET YOUR GOVERNOR which was televised publicly and live on Friday, 28th November, 2014 where he announced that following due consultation with the management of the university and his love for young Nigerians to have affordable access to university education, it was decided that the tuition fees for all regular undergraduate students of Ekiti State university which is fifty thousand naira (N50,000.00 across all faculties should be reduced to Thirty Thousand Naira.
The governor emphasized that the only the tuition fee is reduced while other fees like departmental fees, sports, library, field trip and identity card and other requirement which fall under the category of OTHER CHARGES remain unchanged,
The visitor to Ekiti State University also added that only the regular FULL TIME undergraduates can enjoy. This new fees regime while other category of students including part time, sandwich and post graduate programmes are excluded from this arrangement.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oladipo Aina commended the Bold initiative of Governor Ayodele Fayose whom he said has demonstrated an uncommon kindness and passion for the people, especially the common man who desire university education for their wards.
Expectedly, the students went wild with joy celebrating the news while commending the Governor and the university management for the kind gesture.
