Individuals as well as Institutions have been urged to embrace the use of Electronic library (E-Library) resources to have easy access to information and books online for research and knowledge.
This plea was made by facilitators during a workshop organized by the Organization of Women Scientists for Developing World, (OWSD), Ekiti State University Chapter at the ICT Centre of the University.
The workshop covered different aspects of Electronic Library Resources, bringing to light its various advantages and how it could help in the academic research.
One of the facilitators, Dr. Mrs. Grace Modupe Adebo, stressed that “Electronic Library Resources would always facilitate information electronically. According to her, such information could be on
electronic journals, scholar databases, books or electronic gateways and search engines”.
She explained extensively on the uses of database in research. She said: “A database is a computerized collection of information that is arranged in a manner which makes it easy to retrieve information”.
Another facilitator, Dr. A. E. Salami spoke extensively on “Research4Life”, a collective name for HINARI, AGORA, OARE and ARDI. He said its objective is to help developing countries have free or low
fee access to contents and information online. Research4Life was established in the year 2000 and it is a partnership between the World Health Organisation (WHO) and six others.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Mrs. O. B. Ajayi and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor I. O. Oluwaleye were present at the workshop.
