HISTORY OF CREATION
The journey leading to the establishment of the Laboratory Technology Training Programme in the University of Ado-Ekiti was long and tedious.  The agitation for the establishment of the programme was started by the few technologists that were in the employment of the University at that time.
In 1994, the then Dean of the Faculty of Science set up a Committee to prepare a programme for the Laboratory Training Scheme (LTTS) The Committee recommended the establishment of LTTS based on the Nigerian Institute of Science Technology Syllabus and programme.  This was deliberated upon at the Faculty Board and a report was sent to the University for approval.  Consequently, Senate approved the programme by the middle of the year 1997 and mandated to the Faculty of Science to start the programme.  Another Committee was set up to fine tune the earlier report later in 1997.  The Committee met several times after collecting information from other Universities running such programme and sent in its report based on the Nigerian Institute of Science Technology’s (NIST) programme.
The Faculty Board of Science set up another Committee on 14th April, 1999 to review and fine tune the LTTS programme to accommodate the issuance of internal certificates of the University in line with the practice in similar institutions.  This Committee was set up as a result of agitation on the part of the LTTS students who wanted internal certificates to be issued to them on completion of their courses.  The recommendation and curriculum preparation were presented to the Faculty Board of Studies on Wednesday 23rd June, 1999.  The programme was finally converted from Diploma to B.Sc degree by the senate of the University in February, 2005.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objectives of the programme are as follows:

  1. Provision of education relevant to the Nigerian needs in the field of Science and Technology.
  2. Provision of Laboratory Technology oriented graduates that will satisfy the manpower needs of Science, Engineering and Medical Laboratory.
  3. The programme will enhance a more efficient conduct of scientific research in the Laboratories with a view to attracting  more scholars in the field of Science Technology.
  4. The training of Science Laboratory Technology will enhance the overall development of Science and Technology in the country.
  5. The training Laboratory techniques is expected to handle minor repairs of equipment in the laboratory.

INSTITUTE INFORMATION
There are seven options in the Institute of Science Laboratory Technology namely: Biochemistry, Zoology, Geology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Plant Science and Physics/Electronics.  The Bachelor of Science degree in Science Laboratory Technology is awarded in each of these options.
