Corps Members serving in Ekiti State University will now have the opportunity to be trained in several vocational skills during their NYSC year using the facilities at the multi million naira entrepreneurship center of Ekiti State University
This was the outcome of the meeting held between the NYSC Ekiti State Chapter led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Ibeh Chidube and the EKSU Management team led by the Vice – Chancellor, Professor Samuel Oye Bandele on the possibility of collaboration between the two institutions which would be beneficial to both field.
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator Mr. Ibeh Chidube who thanked the EKSU Vice- Chancellor for the immense support NYSC has received from EKSU in terms of being the largest avenue for Corps Members to serve over the years in Ekiti State Mr. Ibeh told the Vice – Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor Academic, Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi that the new vision and direction of the NYSC was to empower the graduates to acquire skills that could turn them to financial independence through self-employment rather than the wild goose chase for white collar jobs.
The NYSC State Coordinator was of the opinion that the future of our nation lies in entrepreneurship, agriculture and sound education. Adding that the combination of these will provide economics breakthrough as well as provide massive employment opportunities for our youths.
Mr. Ibeh commended the Vice- Chancellor for a successful one year in office which has seen EKSU transformed to a University of high reckoning.
The Vice – Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Samuel Oye Bandele who was represented by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor Academic, Professor, Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi said the roles of the NYSC in fostering National Unity cannot be underestimated, she opined that the Nation has done well in providing a year development programme for the thousands of Universities graduates which serves as a training and Orientation platform for them before they begin the struggles of manhood and womanhood.
Professor Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi said that she was adding a his voice to the others who clamoured for the strengthening of the NYSC Scheme and not cancellation as being rumored in some quarters
She commended the attitude of the current NYSC serving in the University whom she said recently painted the kerbs along the walk way from the University gate to the Omolayo roundabout as part of their Community Service.
Present at the event were Ekiti State NYSC Management team and Principals Officers of the University. The two teams thereafter visited the EKSU Entrepreneurship Center where they were conducted around the facilities by the Director of EKSU Entrepreneurship center, Professor Ariyo Awe and the center’s Head of training, Dr. Bimbola Oni.
At the Entrepreneurship center, the NYSC Officials visited the Hairdressing, tailoring, interior decoration and make over sections.
